One + one = three

Last night I had the great pleasure of photographing a couple who are expecting their first babe in a couple weeks.  Warm weather has been slow in coming this spring, but on this June day, the air was warm, the breeze was soft, and fresh, bright greens fill the landscape.

This mama is one of the most beautiful ladies I know.  She’s tall and strong and stylish in a  Greecian goddess sort of way, and she’s hilarious to boot.  Any day is better when it includes a good story told by her.  That handsome man by her side is pretty much a rock star.  Besides having forearms to dye for, he’s got a fashion sense like no one I’ve ever met.  If he says it looks good, then, dang, it must look good. Oh, and did I mention that he’s a Marine?

The two of these wonderful people together <sigh>.  They share a relationship that just melts my heart.

We don’t yet know the gender of the little one.  Boy or girl?  Who will they be?  So much potential for dreaming and imagining the future.  I’ll be doing a newborn session of this little one when it’s fresh in the world, and I simply can’t wait!

My favorite photos are ones that show the relationships and connections between people.  It was such a treat to be welcomed to capture some images of these two at this fleeting moment.  This family of two has already blossomed to include a third.  We just haven’t gotten to see the newcomer yet!

As we walked down a canopied forest lane, I was struck by the beauty of this arching grandmother tree.  What a perfect backdrop for a beautiful couple.

This photo reminds me of my last days of pregnancy.  I felt like I’d developed a deep connection to the little being within.  How we knew each other was a mystery and so many things were unknown.  But that quiet place where it’s just you and the wee one inside is a little profound.  When in your life are you ever really that close, that connected to another human?

Little one in there, you’ve got a fabulous mama.  Can’t wait for you to see her smile.

Each season has its magic, but I’ve gotta think that springtime has to be one of the best times to be born.  The whole world just seems to be welcoming new life.

Stay tuned for Part II in a few weeks when we can all meet the little traveler.   Love you guys!
